The Art Of The ‘Disorganised’ Kitchen

Ah, the kitchen. A place for laughter and memories, a room that brings people together through a love of food and drink. But alas, the kitchen can be a hot, disorganised mess that'll easily send you spiralling into stress when you can't find the essential spice you thought you had in your cupboard just as you're halfway through cooking a meal. We've all been there - sometimes a disorganised kitchen is anything but an art form; it's simply chaos.

Get it right, however, and you can create a beautifully designed, disorganised kitchen that's nothing short of a work of art. Read on to learn more.

Concealed Appliances

The art of the disorganised kitchen is to make it feel organised - organised chaos is perhaps the better word. And what better way to hide the chaos than to hide appliances altogether. Built-in appliances are very on trend, with it now preferable to put appliances behind the closed doors of cupboards in the kitchen rather than units on display. It's also a great way to open up the kitchen and save some much-needed space - it's tidy and sophisticated, and who has to know what's going on behind those closed doors?

Most new kitchen designs will feature built-in appliances and storage solutions, and it's relatively easy to convert current cupboards into storage spaces without needing to pay for a brand-new kitchen.

Hanging Storage Solutions

Hanging storage solutions are perhaps the epitome of the disorganised kitchen. Hanging pots, pans, and utensils from a specially designed rack or bar creates the illusion of organised chaos, or in other words, the art of the disorganised kitchen. That's actually one of the trending kitchen designs for 2022, with interior designers believing there is an almost nostalgic feel to the design. Throughout the 1900s, it was very trending to hang pots and pans rather than hide them away in cupboards. Plus, it's an excellent space-saving solution, freeing up a cupboard for other kitchen essentials.

It's also a great idea for displaying some of your favourite table linens. While, in the Victorian era, suspending fabrics from the ‘pulleymaid’ was a necessity, the style now represents a firm favourite of interior design. It’s a great way to create more interest within the room – particularly above tables or islands, where head-bumping is not a concern – and to make sure your favourite textiles get plenty of appreciation.

Conquer Your Herbs And Spices

Ah, how we have all found ourselves conquered by herbs and spices at one point. You can organise your herbs and spices, and before you know it, they're back to being a rabble or disorganised chaos. To bring your herbs and spices back to organised chaos, explore stylish and practical herbs and spices racks that'll help you keep those pesky yet essential items in line. The best solution would be a rack with individual rows, so each herb or spice sets next to each other in a line. That way, no matter how often you take one out, it'll always end up back in line with the others.

There's the option to conceal your spice rack or have it on display - it's actually trending to have the spice rack open, but it’s very easy to choose a beautiful fabric and turn it into a little curtain for your spice rack.

Create Calm Amongst Chaos With Decor

The decor is an excellent way to bring calm amongst the chaos in a kitchen - kitchen decor is actually one of the most essential elements of home interior design. The right design can bring peace and unity to an otherwise chaotic room. White or similar crisp and fresh colours often achieve that.

Blues, sage, toned-down yellows, and rich browns are all trending colours if white doesn't float your boat. Try and keep a kitchen to no more than two contrasting colours and try to ensure that most – if not all – of your décor serves some sort of practical purpose. Beautiful and colourful pots and pans, colanders, utensils and crockery all offer decorative power, as well as practicality.

Add a couple of statement lamps into the design – for something food-inspired, go for the double gourd silhouette, as shown in our Brown Speckled Ceramic Lamp Base– and you’ll have a well-appointed and beautiful kitchen at your fingertips.

Foldable Furniture? Yes Please!

One of the easiest ways to make a kitchen feel like disorganised chaos is to overfill it with furniture and appliances, particularly in smaller kitchens that don't have as much space for activities. That's why we love the concept of foldable furniture to bring some organised chaos to the kitchen. Not only is it an ideal space-saving solution, but they're also relatively cheap to buy and easy to erect. Again, this is trending for kitchen designs in 2022 and is a far more efficient way of creating space in a kitchen without spending too much money.

The kitchen can be one of the most chaotic rooms in the home - yet it's one of the best and most diverse rooms when it comes to interior decor. But when it comes to the art of the disorganised kitchen, the trick is to find a way to make it flow and work for you; so that an element of it is still organised.
